Mt. Rainier, Elopement | Heather + Torin

We filmed this elopement on Mt. Rainier and it felt like a modern, sweet love tale where Heather was the bright and independent, whimsical bride and Torin was a groom full of laughter and tender love….who showed up in a 200 year old suite to be as “original” as possible. Definitely Disney vibes in all the feel good ways of our millennial childhoods.

The things they added that made us really appreciate their elopement was to have an officiant who had a strong spiritual connection and deep understanding of the area where they held their ceremony. Emily (their officiant) was full of laughter just like these two and after a tearful and giggle filled ceremony and vow exchange, these two did something special to remember this day for as long as they live (other than having these films of corse). They brought a small juniper tree in a porcelain pot and added a small amount of soil as a mock tree planting but would be going home to plant the tree along with their garden to bring more nature into their lives and this world.

We were so moved by the tree planting and by Emily’s connection and understanding of the native people who used to live on and near mount rainier and for her to allow us all to understand the importance of preserving such a rich natural and historical area.

If you watch these films and wonder how we could get such depth in such short films, the secret sauce to these are that Heather and Torin actually booked us for two days. We showed up a day before they eloped at their cozy, light filled airbnb near Mount Rainier and we filmed a little “lifestyle” session. They were supposed to make breakfast but they decided to cook a mulled cider because of setting off the smoke alarm the night before! We were of course just fine filming them having fun preparing this special yummy hot drink. And we might have also let them pour us a cup each when they were done..

Those moments going up to mount rainier the next morning helped Heather and Torin both get comfortable in front of our cameras and also gave us the chance to really connect to them and their stories.

We learned that this power couple is destined for greatness and that the first big step into their successful lives together was to do their wedding their own way by Eloping at Longmire Bridge, a spot on Mount Rainier that helped them feel as though they were forming a new connection of their own.
